Pediatric Fracture Care

Fractures in children, also known as pediatric fractures, are a common medical condition where a bone in a child under the age of 18 becomes cracked or broken. Approximately 15% of all childhood injuries involve fractures, making it one of the most frequently encountered orthopedic issues in young patients. However, pediatric fractures differ significantly from adult fractures due to one crucial factor—children's bones are still in the process of growing and developing.

Because of the growth potential in children's bones, special care and attention are required when managing these injuries. Improper treatment or misalignment during healing may lead to complications that could affect the child's natural bone growth and joint development, potentially causing long-term deformities or functional issues.

In daily activities, bones naturally withstand various forces, flexing and adapting as needed. However, when excessive force is applied—such as during falls, sports activities, or accidents—the bone's ability to absorb and distribute that force may be exceeded, resulting in a fracture. For instance, if a child jumps off a trampoline and lands awkwardly, the bones and connective tissues typically flex and return to their normal shape. But if the impact is too intense, the bones may fail to withstand the pressure, leading to a fracture.

At Dr. Aditya Sadawarte's Pediatric Fracture Care Unit, we understand the unique considerations required when treating fractures in growing children. Our team prioritizes precise diagnosis, age-appropriate treatment techniques, and personalized rehabilitation plans to ensure proper bone healing while safeguarding the child's future growth and mobility.

Treatment approaches vary depending on the location, type, and severity of the fracture. In many cases, conservative methods such as casting or splinting are sufficient. However, in more complex cases, surgical intervention may be necessary to realign and stabilize the bone. Throughout the treatment journey, we focus on minimally invasive techniques, pain management, and long-term monitoring to ensure optimal recovery and a return to normal activities.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care that supports both the immediate healing process and the child's healthy development in the years to come.
